Instructions
- Prep the Patties:
- Form 4 oz portions of the prime rib steak burger into balls. Do not overwork the meat to keep the burgers juicy.
- Prep the Onions:
- Use a deli slicer or a sharp knife to slice the sweet onions paper-thin.
- Smash and Sear:
- Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat.
- Place a ball of meat on the griddle, top with a generous handful of the thin onion slices, and smash down firmly to create a thin patty with onions embedded into it.
- Cook without moving until the edges are crispy and the onions are caramelized, then flip to cook through.
- Cheese and Toast:
- Place a slice of American cheese on each patty and let it melt.
- Butter the insides of the buns and toast them on the griddle until golden brown.
- Build the Burger:
- Spread yellow mustard on the bottom bun and mayonnaise if using.
- Place the cheesy onion-smashed patty on the bun.
- If using, add the chopped bacon on top of the cheese.
- Add a layer of pickles.
- Cap with the top bun.
- Serve:
- Serve immediately while hot and juicy. This burger pairs well with a side of crispy fries or a simple coleslaw.
