- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1/2 lb pepperoni slices, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped (optional)
- 1 jar of pizza sauce
- Sub buns
- Fresh mozzarella or provolone cheese, sliced
- Romano cheese, grated (for sprinkling)
- Pepperoncini, diced (optional)
- Black olives, sliced (optional)
- Green olives, sliced (optional)
- Cooking spray
- Aluminum foil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a sauté pan over medium heat, brown the ground beef with diced green peppers, chopped pepperoni, and onions (if using).
- Once the meat is cooked and the vegetables are softened, drain any excess grease from the pan.
- Add the jar of pizza sauce to the pan with the meat mixture and sauté until everything is warmed through.
- Open the sub buns and evenly distribute the meat and sauce mixture among them.
- Top each with slices of fresh mozzarella or provolone cheese.
- If desired, sprinkle with grated Romano cheese and add diced pepperoncini, sliced black olives, and green olives to your liking.
- Spray a sheet of aluminum foil with cooking spray. Wrap each sub bun tightly in the foil, ensuring it is sealed.
- Place the wrapped pizza-burgers on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Carefully unwrap the pizza-burgers and serve hot.
