  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 oz orange simple syrup
  • 2 dashes spiced cherry bitters
  • Homemade Luxardo cherries for garnish
  • Candied orange peel for garnish
  • A small amount of gentian Amaro for the floater


  1. Prepare the Glass:
    • Chill a cocktail glass in the freezer or fill it with ice cubes and set it aside to chill.
  2. Mix the Drink:
    • In a mixing glass, combine the rye whiskey, orange simple syrup, and spiced cherry bitters.
    • Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir the ingredients together until well-chilled.
  3. Prepare the Garnish:
    • Take a strip of candied orange peel and twist it over the chilled glass to express the oils. Run the peel around the rim of the glass, then drop it in as a garnish.
    • Add one or two homemade Luxardo cherries to the glass.
  4. Serve the Drink:
    • Strain the chilled mixture into the prepared cocktail glass.
    • Carefully float a small amount of gentian Amaro on top by pouring it over the back of a spoon to gently disperse it over the drink.
  5. Enjoy:
    • Serve the “Rye Sunset Serenade” immediately, offering a layered and aromatic drinking experience that pays homage to the craftsmanship of homemade ingredients.
